How to call our western foods in Chinese
Dear students!
Since you cannot travel to China to prove your language skills so soon, we prepared a bit of vocabulary, you can use while strolling around in your own urban neighborhood. Just try to name everything in Chinese from now on!
Western food is called 西餐 – xīcān) and here is a list with some common dishes and drinks for you!

breakfast foods
cereal = 谷类 – gǔlèi
bacon = 培根 – péigēn (sounds like bacon, right?)
pancakes = 薄煎饼 – báojiānbing
omelette = 煎蛋卷 – jiāndànjuǎn
lunch & dinner foods
hamburger = 汉堡包 – hànbǎobāo
hot dog = 热狗 – règǒu (lit. a hot dog)
sandwich = 三明治 – sānmíngzhì
french fries = 薯条 – shǔtiáo
pasta = 意大利面 – Yìdàlìmiàn = Italian noodles
salad = 沙拉 – shālā (it sounds almost like salad)
pizza = 比萨 – bǐsà
common drinks
coffee = 咖啡 – kāfēi
Coca-Cola = 可口可乐 – kěkǒu kělè
Sprite = 雪碧 – xuěbì
beer = 啤酒 – píjiǔ
wine = 葡萄酒 – pútáojiǔ
Fast Food & Fast drink places :)
McDonald’s = 麦当劳 – Màidāngláo
KFC = 肯德基 – Kěndéjī
Pizza Hut = 必胜客 – Bìshèngkè
Burger King = 汉堡王 – hànbǎowáng (lit. the king of hamburgers)
Subway = 赛百味 – Sàibǎiwèi
Starbucks = 星巴克 – Xīngbākè
You see! It often resembles the original sounds and sometimes it is a literal translation instead.
